Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost Assaulted at Sundance Film Festival: Condemnation and Calls for Unity

A man assaulted Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost, D-Fla., at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, over the weekend. The attacker made derogatory remarks about deportation and then punched Frost in the face before fleeing the scene. The incident took place at the High West Saloon during a private party, where the assailant, identified as Christian Young, unlawfully entered and assaulted Frost and another attendee. Park City police arrested Young on charges of aggravated burglary and two counts of simple assault.

Frost, a Cuban refugee who moved to Florida in the 1960s, made history by becoming the first member of Generation Z to win a seat in Congress in 2022. Representing Central Florida’s District 10, Frost has received support from fellow politicians like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who condemned the attack on social media. Frost reassured his well-wishers on social media, urging people not to be silenced by such acts of hate and violence.

The Sundance Film Festival organizers issued a statement condemning the assault and expressing their stance against violence, harassment, and hate speech. The incident has sparked concerns about safety and the prevalence of such incidents in society. It serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up against hate and ensuring the safety of individuals in public spaces.
