FBI Director Kash Patel Visits Charlotte to Discuss Arrest of Fugitive Alejandro Rosales Castillo for 2016 Murder

FBI Director Kash Patel visited Charlotte to discuss the recent arrest of Alejandro Rosales Castillo, a 27-year-old fugitive wanted for a 2016 murder in the city. Local officials, including Special Agent in Charge James C. Barnacle Jr., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Estella D. Patterson, U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson, and Mecklenburg County District Attorney Spencer B. Merriweather III, joined Patel for a press briefing. Castillo was apprehended in Pachuca, Mexico, with the help of Mexican authorities, after being on the run for years.
Castillo is accused of killing 23-year-old Truc Quan "Sandy" Ly Le in August 2016. The victim's body was discovered in Cabarrus County with a gunshot wound to the head. Castillo was last seen crossing the border into Mexico from Arizona shortly after the murder. The FBI and local law enforcement agencies had been working tirelessly to track down Castillo, leading to his addition to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list in 2017.
Following his arrest, Patel highlighted that Castillo's capture marked the fifth Ten Most Wanted Fugitive apprehended during the current administration. Castillo is currently in custody in Mexico City awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
