Federal authorities have apprehended an individual identified as Nekima Levy Armstrong for her involvement in a disruptive incident at a church service in St. Paul, Minnesota. The arrest was made following allegations of violating the FACE Act, which prohibits interference with religious activities at places of worship. The arrest was carried out by HSI and FBI agents at the direction of Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Armstrong, described as a civil rights lawyer and "scholar-activist," was reportedly a key figure in organizing the disruption at Cities Church in St. Paul. She had been actively targeting individuals associated with the church, including accusing one of its pastors of having a conflict of interest due to their employment with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The incident at Cities Church involved a group of agitators storming the church during a service, leading to confrontations with congregants, including children. Armstrong's involvement in the disruption and her controversial views and activism have drawn attention, including her role in organizing boycotts against Target over diversity programs.
In addition to her involvement in the church disruption, Armstrong has expressed admiration for Joanne Chesimard, also known as Assata Shakur, who was convicted of killing a State Trooper in 1977. Armstrong praised Chesimard as a "brave, wise, powerful, and revolutionary Black woman," highlighting her controversial views and affiliations.
