Power Ballad: World Premiere at Dublin International Film Festival
The Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF) will feature the world premiere of the new musical-comedy Power Ballad, starring actors Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, along with Irish director John Carney. The film will close the festival on Sunday, 1 March at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. Tickets for the event, starting at €38, will be available for general sale on Friday, 23 January, with a presale currently ongoing for DIFF Members Club, Festival Pass holders, and BGE Rewards customers.
Set in Ireland, Power Ballad follows the story of Rick (played by Paul Rudd), a former wedding singer, who meets Danny (portrayed by Nick Jonas), a fading boyband star, during a gig. The two bond over music and a late-night jam session, leading to an unexpected friendship. As they return to their separate lives, the chance encounter has a significant impact on both of them in different ways.
The film, written by John Carney and Peter McDonald, features a talented cast of Irish actors including Rory Keenan, Keith McErlean, Marcella Plunkett, Jack Reynor, Sophie Vavasseur, and Naoimh Whelton. Carney expressed his excitement about Power Ballad closing the festival, promising a mix of music and fun, with a memorable scene involving Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.
Dublin International Film Festival Director Grainne Humphreys praised the collaboration with Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for showcasing the closing night film and highlighted the record number of Irish features in the festival lineup, indicating a bright future for Irish cinema. The festival will run from 19 February to 1 March, with Power Ballad scheduled for release on 29 May.
