Antisemitic Vandalism at Gravesend Park Sparks Outrage: NYC Community Unites Against Hate

A children's playground in Gravesend Park, Brooklyn, was vandalized with 57 swastikas painted on playground slides and a handball court wall in red, yellow, and blue paint. The NYPD is investigating this as a hate crime, specifically aggravated harassment. The incident was discovered just before 11 a.m., and no arrests have been made. The Parks Department crew members are currently cleaning up the graffiti using paint thinner and light grey paint to cover it up.
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed his disgust at the antisemitic vandalism, stating that antisemitism has no place in the city. He assured that his administration is working closely with the NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force and the Parks Department to investigate and hold those responsible accountable. Other elected leaders and the ADL have also condemned the incident. The local community board emphasized the need to catch and bring the culprit to justice, as this is the second incident in the park in two days.
City Council speaker Julie Menin released a five-point plan to combat antisemitism last Friday, in response to the rising incidents of hate crimes. The community is urged to report any information related to the vandalism to the authorities. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for action against antisemitism in the city. The community stands united against such acts of hatred and discrimination.
