Ed Sweeney Receives Freedom of the City of London: A Prestigious Honor for a Wexford Native

Ed Sweeney, a proud native of Wexford, was recently honored with the Freedom of the City of London at a ceremony held at Guildhall. Currently a faculty member at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Ed, along with his wife Joyce Byrne, splits their time between their residences in St John’s Road and Murrayfield. The prestigious honor of the Freedom of the City has been previously bestowed upon individuals with Wexford connections, such as Ed Sheeran and Dermot O’Leary.

As a professor of supply chain management at Heriot-Watt University, Ed Sweeney is an expert in logistics. His notable work includes the publication of a comprehensive guide on modern logistics titled "Global Logistics: New Directions in Supply Chain Management." The Freedom of the City, dating back to the 1230s, is now awarded for exceptional leadership in relevant fields, and Ed's admission was facilitated by his membership in the Worshipful Company of Carmen.

The Freedom Ceremony for Ed took place at the Guildhall's Chamberlain’s Court, where he received his official parchment and a copy of the Rules of Conduct of Life. This prestigious honor places Ed among esteemed business leaders, royalty, actors, and sports personalities. Reflecting on his achievement, Ed expressed pride in representing Heriot-Watt University as a global leader in business-oriented supply chain research and education. He joins the ranks of distinguished individuals like Bob Geldof and Paschal Donohoe who have been recognized with the Freedom of the City.

In the sporting arena, the Under-12 Premier Division has become a competitive two-horse race, with Forth Celtic securing their fourth victory of the season against a young Gorey Rangers team.
