Canadian Man Faces 20 Years in Prison for Posing as Pilot to Secure Free Flights

A Canadian man is facing potential imprisonment of up to 20 years for posing as a pilot to secure free flights, including trips to Hawaii. Dallas Pokornik, 33, was arrested and brought back to the U.S. from Panama to address wire fraud charges. He allegedly pretended to be an airline pilot by providing false employee identification to three different airlines in order to fly without paying for tickets. This fraudulent activity took place over a four-year period, during which Pokornik sought to travel in the jump seat of the aircraft without holding a pilot's license or airman's certificate. The scheme targeted airlines based in Honolulu, Chicago, Fort Worth, and Toronto, with the intention of defrauding them and obtaining financial gain. If convicted, Pokornik could face significant fines and a term of supervised release in addition to potential imprisonment.
