Tragic Shooting at Dooky Chase Restaurant: NOPD Investigates Fatal Incident in Tremé

New Orleans police are currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at Dooky Chase Restaurant in Tremé, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. The incident took place at 8 p.m. on a Friday night, with the victim identified as 19-year-old Kareem Harris from New Orleans. The victim was reportedly fleeing from gunfire and sought refuge in the restaurant. Three female visitors to New Orleans were also wounded in the shooting and received medical treatment, with one victim in the trauma ICU, another in stable condition, and the third already discharged from the hospital. NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick stated that they are searching for a single shooter and are urging the public to provide any video footage they may have from that evening.

Darlene Cusanza, the president and CEO of Crimestoppers of GNO, has raised the reward for information on the shooting from $5,000 to $13,500. Superintendent Kirkpatrick emphasized that the incident was targeted but clarified that Dooky Chase Restaurant and the Chase family were not the intended targets. The Chase family issued a statement expressing gratitude for the support received during this challenging time and reaffirming their commitment to the New Orleans community. They highlighted Dooky Chase's Restaurant as a place of gathering, culture, and care, emphasizing their dedication to the city and its people. The family extended prayers to all those affected by the tragic event and pledged to move forward with strength, compassion, and unity. Dooky Chase Restaurant is situated on the 2300 block of Orleans Avenue.
