Snowfall Forecast: Updates on Winter Weather in Florida and Georgia
Florida is bracing for the possibility of snowfall in the Panhandle region as a powerful cold front moves in. While snowflakes are expected on Sunday morning, accumulations are likely to be minimal. The lack of very cold air and warm ground temperatures make a widespread snow event unlikely in the area. However, some impacts may be felt along the Florida-Georgia border, with Jackson County under a Winter Weather Advisory where up to one inch of snow could accumulate.
Further north in South Georgia, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Macon area, where heavier snowfall is anticipated. Models suggest that snow accumulation of up to 3 inches is possible in parts of South Georgia. Central Florida is expected to only receive rain on Sunday, with the snow staying well north of the region.
As the cold front pushes through, moisture left behind will create a rain/snow mix in the morning hours of Sunday. While the snow event is not expected to be significant in Florida, precautions are being taken in areas where snowfall is anticipated.
