A small passenger plane operated by Indonesia Air Transport has gone missing with 11 people on board. The flight was en route from Yogyakarta to Makassar when contact was lost around 1pm local time. Search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the mountainous area of Maros Regency to locate the aircraft. The turboprop plane was carrying three passengers and eight crew members on its journey to Sulawesi island.

Indonesia heavily relies on air transport to connect its numerous islands, making aviation safety crucial. The country has experienced several fatal aviation incidents in recent years, highlighting the challenges of air travel in the region. In a tragic incident last year, a helicopter crash in South Kalimantan province claimed the lives of all eight individuals on board. Additionally, another helicopter crash in Papua's Ilaga district resulted in the loss of four lives. The search for the missing Indonesia Air Transport plane continues as authorities work to locate the aircraft and its passengers and crew.
