ICE Arrests Afghan Immigrant for Attempted Honor Killing in Rochester, NY

An individual identified as Waheed Allah Mohammad, an illegal immigrant from Afghanistan, was arrested in Rochester, New York, for attempting to kill his teenage sister due to her behavior as a "bad Muslim girl." Mohammad, who was convicted of first-degree attempted murder and assault, received a 10-year prison sentence and five years of supervision.
ICE Director Todd M. Lyons emphasized that ICE's targeted enforcement operations aim to apprehend and remove convicted criminals like Mohammad, who pose significant threats to their families, communities, and states. Mohammad's violent act against his sister in 2008, motivated by her perceived misconduct as a "bad Muslim girl," led to his conviction and imprisonment.
Despite lawfully entering the United States in 2004, Mohammad's attempted murder conviction violated the terms of his legal status, prompting ICE to initiate removal proceedings against him in 2009. Following a deportation order issued by an immigration judge in 2012, Mohammad will remain in federal custody until his deportation is carried out.
