Embracing the Trend: The Rise of Micro Weddings in 2026

The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant changes to event planning, particularly weddings, during the years 2020-22. Couples had to adapt to lockdown restrictions, social distancing, and supply-chain issues, leading to the rise of "micro weddings," intimate celebrations with fewer than 50 guests. Despite the easing of pandemic restrictions, experts predict that micro weddings will make a comeback in 2026 due to economic considerations.
A recent report by The Knot Worldwide highlighted the financial concerns of engaged couples, with many citing the impact of tariffs imposed during the previous administration. As a result, couples are reevaluating their wedding plans to reduce costs, such as cutting back on flowers, decorations, and guest lists. However, experts emphasize that having a smaller wedding does not mean sacrificing luxury elements.
Wedding planner Amy Lynn noted that a smaller guest count allows for more focus on personal details and small touches, enhancing the overall experience. The Knot's data on wedding costs revealed that the average wedding cost is $33,000, with an average of $284 per guest. Couples who kept their guest list under 89 people spent less than $15,000, while adding more guests significantly increased the total cost.
While wedding expenses vary based on multiple factors, a smaller guest list can result in substantial savings, allowing couples to create a memorable and personalized event even with a "micro" wedding. As couples prioritize cost-effective options and intimate celebrations, micro weddings are expected to remain a popular choice in 2026.
