U.S. Attorney Leading Prosecution Against NY AG Letitia James Removed from Case by Judge

A U.S. attorney appointed by Donald Trump, who was leading the prosecution against New York Attorney General Letitia James, has been relieved of his prosecutorial duties. U.S. District Judge Lorna Schofield ruled that John Sarcone III's appointment was unlawful and removed him from his position as the top federal prosecutor in the Albany region. Sarcone is now disqualified from any involvement in prosecuting or supervising cases related to New York v. Trump and New York v. National Rifle Association. The government can refile the cases, but Sarcone is not allowed to be involved in them. Judge Schofield had previously indicated her intention to remove Sarcone from his position and prevent him from serving in similar roles. Sarcone is the third Trump appointee to be stripped of their official titles.
