Senator Ted Cruz Calls for Impeachment of Federal Judges Boasberg and Boardman: Upholding the Rule of Law

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is urging House Speaker Mike Johnson to initiate impeachment proceedings against two federal judges whom he accuses of committing serious offenses against the United States government. Cruz specifically points to Chief Judge James E. Boasberg and Judge Deborah L. Boardman, highlighting their recent actions as grounds for impeachment and removal from the bench. The senator's call for impeachment was made during a Senate Subcommittee hearing titled "Impeachment: Holding Rogue Judges Accountable."
Cruz focuses on Boasberg's involvement in Special Counsel Jack Smith's Arctic Frost probe, which he claims turned into lawfare against former President Donald Trump. The senator criticizes Boasberg for authorizing sealed subpoenas and nondisclosure orders targeting sitting U.S. Senators, including Cruz himself, in violation of constitutional principles. Additionally, Cruz points out the illegality of the nondisclosure orders issued by the courts to prevent Congress members from being informed of the seizure of their toll records.
In the case of Judge Boardman, Cruz highlights her sentencing decision in a case involving an attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Despite prosecutors recommending a lengthy prison term, Boardman sentenced the perpetrator to just eight years, citing the individual's self-declared transgender status as a mitigating factor. Cruz argues that Boardman's sentencing decision reflects partisan bias and undermines the integrity of the federal judiciary.
Reps. Brandon Gill and Chip Roy have formally filed articles of impeachment against Boasberg and Boardman, respectively. Cruz emphasizes the importance of holding rogue judges accountable for their actions and urges Speaker Johnson to advance the impeachment articles filed by Gill and Roy. He warns that failing to do so would set a dangerous precedent that ideology excuses lawlessness and undermines the rule of law.
Cruz concludes by stressing the constitutional duty of Congress to uphold the rule of law and preserve the integrity of the judiciary. He asserts that judicial independence should not shield misconduct but ensure adherence to the law. Cruz's letter to Speaker Johnson underscores the importance of defending the principle of fidelity to the law as a fundamental aspect of constitutional faith.
