From Child Prodigy to Global Sensation: The Rise of Lorde in the Music Industry

Child stars in the music industry are a rare sight these days, with Lorde possibly being one of the last of her kind. Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, hails from Auckland, New Zealand, and showed early signs of talent and intelligence. Despite her young age, she had a passion for music and songwriting that overshadowed any academic pursuits.

Lorde's journey to stardom began when she formed a duo with her friend Louis McDonald and won a school talent competition. Their cover performances on a local radio station caught the attention of Scott Maclachlan, an A&R executive at Universal Music Group. Lorde was signed to the label on a development deal at the age of 13, marking the start of her music career.

Rather than throwing her into the music industry's deep end, Universal Music Group allowed Lorde to continue her education while exploring her musical talents. She collaborated with different songwriters and producers until she met Joel Little at the age of 15. Together, they created an EP titled The Love Club, which gained popularity on SoundCloud before its official release.

Despite her early self-criticism of her songwriting, Lorde's talent and growth as an artist were undeniable. Her debut album, Pure Heroine, released in 2013, solidified her status as a superstar in the making. Lorde's journey from a gifted child in New Zealand to a global music sensation is a testament to her dedication and talent.
