Sprinkles Cupcakes Announces Closure of All Locations: A Look Back at the Rise and Fall of the Cupcake Empire

Sprinkles Cupcakes, founded by Candace Nelson, announced the closure of all its locations. Nelson shared the news in an Instagram video, revealing that the bakery doors would be shut. The cupcake company, which started in 2005 with a KitchenAid mixer, expanded to have multiple locations across the United States and introduced Cupcake ATMs for on-demand treats. In 2012, Nelson sold Sprinkles to a private equity firm and is no longer involved in its operations. Currently, Sprinkles has 21 locations in seven states, with one bakery in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the rest spread across California, Washington D.C., Florida, Nevada, Texas, and Utah. Additionally, there are 25 Cupcake ATMs in California, Washington D.C., Nevada, and Texas. Despite the closures, the company has not issued an official statement regarding the situation.
