U.S. Reduces Tariffs on Italian Pasta Makers: Impact on Italian Exports and Prime Minister's Efforts

Italy's foreign ministry announced that the United States has reduced proposed duties on several Italian pasta makers after reevaluating their U.S. activities. Initially facing a 92% duty increase, La Molisana and Garofalo had their tariffs adjusted to 2.26% and 13.98%, respectively. The remaining 11 producers will be subject to a 9.09% tariff. This adjustment reflects the constructive cooperation of Italian companies, with the full review results set to be released on March 11. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's efforts to protect Italian firms from additional tariffs were impacted by the initial threat, with Italy's pasta exports valued at over 4 billion euros in 2024, including nearly $800 million from the U.S. market.
