Kentucky Woman Faces Legal Charges for Using Medication to Terminate Pregnancy Involving Developed Male Fetus

A woman from Kentucky is facing legal charges for using medication to terminate a pregnancy involving a developed male fetus, as reported by the Kentucky State Police. Melinda Spencer, 35, disclosed to healthcare providers at United Clinic in Campton that she had performed the abortion at her residence. Following an interview with Spencer, detectives learned that she had procured abortion-inducing medication online and buried the fetal remains on her property. The police discovered the remains on her property near the 3700 block of Flat Mary Road.

The exact stage of Spencer's pregnancy when she terminated it was not disclosed by the state police, but they described the fetal remains as being developed. Kentucky law currently prohibits almost all abortions, with the ban coming into effect in 2022 after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade. The only exception to the ban is when a pregnant woman's life is at risk.

Melinda Spencer has been charged with first-degree fetal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence. She was taken into custody at the Three Forks Regional Jail on Thursday. The Kentucky State Police are conducting a death investigation in connection with this case.

This situation is still unfolding, and further updates may be provided as the investigation progresses.
