Journalist Nick Shirley and Researcher David's Investigation into Alleged Fraud at Quality Learning Center

Independent journalist Nick Shirley and his researcher, known as "David," revisited the Quality Learning Center in Minneapolis, donning sweatshirts with "1-800 FRAUD" printed on them. This visit followed the release of a viral video by Shirley alleging fraud at state-funded childcare facilities in Minnesota. David also mentioned filing a criminal complaint against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in connection to the alleged fraud. The duo was captured in a post shared on social media standing outside the facility in matching sweatshirts, with Shirley captioning the post, "WE OUT HERE LEARIN AND STOPPING FRAUD."
Both Shirley and David wore sweatshirts that featured the misspelled name "Quality 'Learing' Center," reflecting the signage at the Minneapolis site that was central to the fraud allegations. The facility's manager had previously disputed Shirley's original video, claiming it misrepresented the business by filming outside of posted hours and falsely implying the center was inactive. State officials and a daycare manager refuted the fraud allegations on Monday, denying claims that the location was closed or improperly receiving taxpayer funds.
Shirley's viral video showcased visits to various state daycare facilities, including the Quality Learning Center, which appeared inactive despite receiving state childcare assistance money. The video gained significant online attention, with notable figures like Rep. Mike Lawler, Donald Trump Jr., and Elon Musk commending Shirley's reporting. However, others, including Governor Walz, criticized the allegations. The scandal involving alleged social services fraud, primarily linked to Minneapolis' Somali community, had already put Walz under scrutiny for the loss of at least $1 billion.
During their recent visit to the Quality Learning Center, David informed reporters that he had lodged a criminal complaint against Governor Walz for violating Minnesota Statute 3.971, Subdivision 9. He mentioned filing the complaint several weeks prior and expressed confidence in an ongoing investigation. David criticized Walz for allegedly allowing the fraud to continue, attributing it to the governor's desire to secure the voting block represented by the Somali community. The situation had escalated to the point where individuals at facilities recognized Shirley upon arrival, highlighting the impact of his reporting.
Fox News Digital has sought a response from Governor Walz's office regarding the allegations and the criminal complaint filed against him. The ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged fraud at state-funded childcare facilities in Minnesota continues to draw attention and spark discussions about accountability and transparency in public services.
