Israel Suspends Humanitarian Organizations in Gaza Over Compliance Issues

Israel announced on Tuesday that it will suspend several humanitarian organizations, including Doctors Without Borders, for not complying with new regulations for international organizations operating in Gaza. The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs stated that these organizations did not meet the requirements for sharing information on staff, funding, and operations. Doctors Without Borders, a prominent health organization in Gaza, was accused of not clarifying the roles of some staff members allegedly cooperating with militant groups.

International organizations have criticized Israel's rules as arbitrary and potentially risky for their staff. Approximately 15% of NGOs working in Gaza did not have their permits renewed, affecting around 25 organizations. Doctors Without Borders, also known as MSF, has not yet responded to the accusations. In the past, Israel accused the organization's staff of involvement in military activities, which Doctors Without Borders denied, emphasizing that they would not knowingly employ individuals engaged in such activities.

The conflict between Israel and international organizations extends to the amount of aid reaching Gaza. While Israel claims to be fulfilling aid commitments outlined in the recent ceasefire, humanitarian groups argue that more assistance is urgently needed in the war-torn Palestinian territory with a population of over 2 million. The situation remains contentious, with differing perspectives on the level of aid being provided to Gaza.
