Tragic Boat Sinking in Indonesia: Search Continues for Missing Spanish Soccer Coach and Family

Indonesian search and rescue teams have recovered the body of a woman believed to be a member of the family of a Spanish soccer coach and his three children who went missing after a boat sank in the waters near Serai island. The body was found by a local resident and taken to a hospital in Labuan Bajo for identification.

The family, including Valencia CF Women’s B coach Fernando Martín, his wife, four children, four crew members, and a local guide, were on a holiday trip in Komodo National Park when the boat sank due to engine failure. While some were rescued, Martín and three of his children remained missing.

Efforts to locate the missing family members are ongoing, with nearly 100 personnel, police, and navy support conducting search operations in the expanded area around the site of the sinking. Divers have also been deployed to assist in the search.

The tragic incident has garnered condolences from the Valencia CF football club, La Liga, and other soccer clubs, expressing solidarity and support for the affected family. The search operation will continue for seven days as per Indonesian law, with the possibility of extension if needed.

The accident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with boat travel in Indonesia, where safety standards and overcrowding issues contribute to frequent accidents. The search for the missing family members remains a top priority for the rescue teams involved in the operation.
