Navajo County Authorities Provide Updates on Pinetop Murder Case: Arrest Made in Kerri Abatti's Death

Authorities in Navajo County, Arizona, provided updates on the Pinetop murder case during a recent press conference. The conference highlighted the arrest of Michael Abatti from El Centro, California, who is accused of killing his ex-wife, Kerri Abatti, in Pinetop. The investigation timeline and collaborative efforts between local and federal agencies were also discussed.
Michael Abatti, 63, was apprehended in El Centro on Dec. 23 following an arrest warrant issued by Navajo County Superior Court. Kerri Ann Abatti, 59, was found shot to death at her Pinetop residence on Nov. 20. Detectives conducted searches at various properties linked to the Abatti family on Dec. 2. It is believed that Michael Abatti traveled from California to Arizona to commit the crime before returning to California.
The Navajo County Sheriff's Office revealed the cooperation between the FBI, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Globe Police Department, and other agencies from California to Arizona during the investigation. Kerri Abatti's nephew, Williams Robins, made the initial 911 call. Investigators interviewed family members, friends, and coworkers of the Abatti family leading up to the grand jury indictment for first-degree murder against Michael Abatti on Dec. 23.
Authorities stated that Michael Abatti is believed to be solely responsible for Kerri Abatti's murder. He is currently held in Imperial County Jail awaiting extradition to Navajo County. The press conference highlighted the lack of resolution in the couple's divorce and did not disclose a motive for the murder. The investigation continues as authorities work to bring justice to the victim and her family.
