An incident in Comanche, Oklahoma, on Christmas Day resulted in a tragic shooting when a man, Cody Wayne Adams, was doing target practice with a Glock .45 handgun he had received as a Christmas gift. The woman, Sandra Phelps, who was sitting on a front porch with her family, was struck by a bullet and later died from her injuries. The authorities charged Mr. Adams with first-degree manslaughter in connection with the incident.

Emergency medical workers responded to the scene after Ms. Phelps was shot and provided CPR, but she was pronounced dead shortly after. The shooting occurred while Ms. Phelps was sitting with two adult family members on a covered front porch, and they heard gunshots nearby before she was hit.
