El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele Responds to Hillary Clinton's Criticism of CECOT Prison Conditions

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele has responded to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's comments regarding the conditions at the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), a maximum-security prison in El Salvador that has received deported migrants from the United States.

Bukele addressed Clinton's post on social media, which included an 11-minute video from the PBS Frontline documentary titled "Surviving CECOT," featuring the stories of three Venezuelan men who were deported to CECOT by the Trump administration.

The documentary highlights the experiences of Juan José Ramos Ramos, Andry Blanco Bonilla, and Wilmer Vega Sandia, who were labeled as Tren de Aragua gang members by the U.S. government, a claim they deny.

In response to the allegations, Bukele expressed his country's willingness to cooperate if there are concerns about potential torture at CECOT, offering to release the entire prison population, including gang leaders and individuals labeled as "political prisoners," to any country willing to accept them.

Bukele emphasized that El Salvador will continue to prioritize the human rights of its citizens who live free from gang influence, while also mentioning his collaboration with former President Donald Trump in housing certain deported migrants at CECOT.

A federal judge recently ordered the Trump administration to provide due process to a group of Venezuelan migrants deported to El Salvador in March, setting the stage for a potential legal showdown between the White House and the judiciary.
