Americans Express Discontent with Congress, Economy, and Country Direction in 2025 Gallup Poll

As 2025 comes to a close, Americans are feeling discontented with Congress, the economy, and the overall direction of the country, as per a recent Gallup poll. The survey, conducted over two weeks in December, reveals widespread dissatisfaction with congressional leaders, the state of the nation, and the performance of top leaders in the White House, Supreme Court, and Federal Reserve. President Donald Trump's approval rating stands at 36%, with strong support from Republicans at 89% and significantly lower approval from independents and Democrats.

The poll, which surveyed 1,016 U.S. adults across all states and the District of Columbia, highlights the stagnant approval ratings for President Trump, which have remained at a low point for the past month. Despite a slight increase in approval ratings in daily polling averages, the overall sentiment remains negative. Congress fares no better, with an approval rating of 17%, reflecting a deep partisan divide. Republicans show the highest approval for the GOP-led Congress, while independents and Democrats express significantly lower levels of approval.

None of the 12 U.S. leaders evaluated in the poll, including members of Congress, the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, and the Federal Reserve, received majority-level approval. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were among the few who surpassed the 40% mark in approval ratings. The poll also indicates a decline in economic confidence, with Americans increasingly concerned about economic issues as the most pressing problem facing the country.

Overall dissatisfaction with the direction of the country remains high, with 74% of Americans expressing discontent. This sentiment aligns with declining views on the economy and reflects a broader sense of unease among the population. The Gallup poll underscores the prevailing mood of dissatisfaction and discontent among Americans as the year draws to a close.
