Sinkhole Incident in Shropshire: Emergency Response in Whitchurch Canal Area

A sinkhole incident has been declared in Shropshire, affecting a canal in the Chemistry area of Whitchurch. Emergency services are currently at the scene, with a multi-agency response coordinated through the Shropshire Tactical Co-ordination Group (TCG). Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties, and residents are receiving assistance from the fire service. A photo obtained by Sky News shows a section of the canal drained of water, with two narrowboats appearing to have fallen into the hole and resting on the canal bed.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed their response to a landslip impacting the canal in the Whitchurch area. For safety reasons, the public is urged to stay away from the affected area, including Whitchurch Marina, while emergency crews and partners manage the situation.
