Remembering Ernie Wingo: A Life Well-Lived and Cherished

Ernestine Adele Cassino Wingo, affectionately known as "Ernie," passed away peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by her children. Born in Gilroy, California, Ernie later moved to Modesto where she attended Modesto High School and met her husband, Nolan Wayne Wingo. The couple lived in various cities before settling in Turlock, where they established their family home on Berkeley Avenue for over six decades.
Ernie was a woman of many talents and pursued new challenges throughout her life. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Stanislaus State College in 1977 and embarked on a successful real estate career shortly after. Together with Wayne, she enjoyed gardening, garage sales, family gatherings, and annual camping trips. Following Wayne's passing in 2010, Ernie remained active in the Modesto Garden Club, tai chi classes, and community events.
In addition to her husband Wayne, Ernie was preceded in death by her sister Elaine Makarounis. She is survived by her three children: Brian (Debbie) of Tracy, Greg (Cindy) of Seattle, and Barbara (Dana) of San Mateo. Ernie is also survived by her grandchildren Sarah, Megan (Steve), Natalie, Matthew, and Alessandro, as well as her great-granddaughter Charlotte. The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Modesto Garden Club in Ernie's honor.
A memorial service to celebrate Ernie's life will be held on Saturday, February 21st at 11 am at Turlock Funeral Home, located at 425 N. Soderquist Rd. Ernie will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
