ICE Removes Dangerous Criminal Illegal Immigrants in Holiday Crackdown: DHS Announcement

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been working diligently to remove illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds from the streets, referring to it as a "Christmas gift to Americans." ICE agents have been conducting arrests across the country, targeting individuals with criminal records that include offenses such as burglary, robbery, and aggravated kidnapping. These individuals are considered to be among the most dangerous offenders.
According to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, violent criminal illegal aliens have no place in the United States, and the recent arrests have focused on individuals convicted of serious crimes like burglary, bank robbery, and kidnapping. The agency expressed gratitude to law enforcement for ensuring safer communities during the holiday season by apprehending these individuals.
The recent arrests included illegal immigrants from various countries, including Chile, Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador, and Honduras. Each of the individuals taken into custody had prior criminal convictions, making them a priority for ICE enforcement actions.
One of the arrested individuals, Jessupe Sandino Berraza-Rivera from Chile, is associated with a transnational organized crime group and was convicted of burglary in California. Another individual, Luis Enrique Castaneda-Reyes from Colombia, has a history of criminal convictions, including bank robbery and violent crimes involving drugs and weapons in New Jersey.
Elidelfo Castro-Nava from Mexico was convicted of aggravated kidnapping and assault resulting in serious bodily injury in Utah, while Juan Emerson Gomez-Sorto from El Salvador was convicted of aggravated assault in the same state. Jesser Sandoval-Cruz, a Honduran national, was convicted of assault in Texas.
The Department of Homeland Security highlighted the progress made in immigration enforcement under President Trump's administration, noting that over 2.5 million illegal immigrants have left the U.S. since his return to office in January 2025. The administration's efforts have been credited with creating the most secure border in American history, with a focus on enhancing national security and protecting American citizens.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized the administration's commitment to making America safe and prioritizing the well-being of the American people. The agency praised the swift actions taken to secure the border, combat criminal organizations, and apprehend thousands of criminal illegal aliens, showcasing the administration's dedication to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring public safety.
