Principal photography for the upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, has officially concluded, as announced by director Shawn Levy on Instagram. The film is set to be the next installment in the Star Wars franchise after The Mandalorian and Grogu. Levy shared a behind-the-scenes photo showcasing the interior of a large starship, possibly an Imperial-class vessel.

There have been numerous rumors surrounding the movie, speculating that it may tie into the sequel trilogy and lay the groundwork for Lucasfilm's future plans involving Rey and the "New Jedi Order." However, Levy clarified that Starfighter will be a standalone story, featuring new characters and a new timeline. The film aims to provide audiences with a fresh and original adventure while honoring the legacy themes of Star Wars.

Set several years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, Starfighter promises to deliver a unique and original Star Wars story that is neither a sequel nor a prequel. Ryan Gosling leads the cast, which includes Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. Gosling is rumored to play the uncle of Gray's Force-sensitive teen, with Adams potentially portraying the teen's mother.

Levy expressed his excitement and honor at being part of the Star Wars universe, emphasizing the impact that Star Wars has had on storytelling and cinematic experiences. Star Wars: Starfighter is slated for release in theaters on May 28, 2027, promising fans a new and thrilling addition to the beloved franchise.
