Minnesota State Rep. Kristin Robbins Exposes Massive Fraud in Assisted Living Programs, Calls for Gov. Walz's Resignation

Minnesota state Rep. Kristin Robbins recently uncovered significant fraud in the state's assisted living program, shedding light on an individual indicted for fraud who is still receiving payments from the state. The Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy, led by Robbins, held a hearing focusing on fraud in the state's assisted living programs, amidst a broader fraud scandal affecting various sectors and prompting calls for Gov. Tim Walz's resignation.
The committee revealed that individuals involved in other fraud schemes are receiving taxpayer funds for assisted living programs, with one individual, known as "FOF Defendant," facing indictment charges in the Feeding the Future fraud scheme while still receiving payments from Minnesota's Department of Human Services. Robbins presented properties linked to FOF Defendant and highlighted a network of fraud that evaded oversight procedures.
Robbins, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, plans to submit her findings to the U.S. Attorney for further investigation. Investigations into fraud have primarily targeted nonprofits exploiting COVID-19 and food aid programs, but the committee's findings suggest that adult daycare services and assisted living facilities are also involved in fraud, indicating a more extensive scandal than previously known.
The scandal, which has gained national attention in recent weeks, has prompted actions from the Trump administration and Congress. The Small Business Administration is probing Somali groups in Minnesota linked to the scandal, while a House Oversight Committee is investigating Walz's role. The Department of Health and Human Services is reviewing Minnesota's use of federal social service funds amid concerns of misuse, requesting detailed records from the state.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon called on Walz to resign over the scandal, criticizing his oversight failures and the influx of fraudsters attracted to Minnesota. The state has become a hub for criminal activity, with allegations of money laundering. The scandal underscores the need for enhanced oversight and controls to prevent fraud in state programs.
