National Guardsman Shot in D.C. Attack Makes Remarkable Recovery, Honoring Fallen Comrade

A National Guardsman who was shot in the head in Washington, D.C., is showing remarkable progress, as he can now breathe on his own and stand with assistance, according to a neurosurgeon at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The update on U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe came as U.S. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, who was killed in the same attack, was laid to rest in West Virginia.

Staff Sgt. Wolfe was airlifted to the hospital with a critical gunshot wound to the head and received lifesaving treatment, including emergency surgery. He has made significant progress and is now ready to transition to inpatient rehabilitation for further recovery.

Wolfe's parents expressed gratitude for the care their son has received, calling his progress miraculous and thanking everyone for their prayers. They believe in the power of prayer and have witnessed God's presence in the hospital room during Andy's recovery.

Governor Patrick Morrisey praised the ceremony for Beckstrom, describing it as incredibly moving and honoring her bravery in the face of the tragic attack. The National Guard paid tribute to Beckstrom during her burial at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors.

The chaplain at the ceremony emphasized the significance of earning a place in the cemetery and the importance of remembering Beckstrom's sacrifice for freedom. He acknowledged the range of emotions felt in response to her death but encouraged finding comfort in the belief that justice will prevail.
