Teen Football Team Members Arrested for Theft in Florida: A Championship Game Turned Crime Story

A group of teenagers from Philadelphia, who were members of the United Thoroughbreds football team, were caught stealing from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Florida. The teens, aged between 14 and 15, were in Florida for a championship game but ended up getting arrested before the match. The Polk County Sheriff publicly identified the teens and mocked them for missing the game. The teens allegedly worked together to steal items from the store by using a systematic approach. They now face felony charges for retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft. Despite not having prior criminal records, the teens will have to return to Florida to face the charges.

The teens were caught on surveillance footage as they allegedly stole items from the store. The sheriff displayed a list of the stolen items during a press conference. The boys' coach tried to intervene and get them out of trouble, but his efforts were unsuccessful. The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, also commented on the incident, stating that the teens picked the wrong state and county to commit the theft. The championship game proceeded without the teens, who were detained at a juvenile detention center.

The sheriff expressed disappointment in the teens' actions, emphasizing that they let their team down and cost them the championship. He warned that those who choose to steal will face consequences, while those who do not will have the support of law enforcement. The teens returned to Philadelphia after their team lost the championship without them. The sheriff concluded his remarks by wishing them a "Merry Christmas."
