Violent Inmates Escape Louisiana Jail: Sheriff Warns Residents of Dangerous Fugitives

Inmates accused of violent crimes, including second-degree attempted murder, escaped from a Louisiana jail by removing parts of a deteriorating wall and using sheets to scale another wall. One of the escapees killed himself after being tracked down. This incident is the latest in a series of bold jailbreaks in Louisiana, including a previous escape involving 10 inmates from a New Orleans jail earlier this year. The inmates at the St. Landry Parish Jail in Opelousas managed to break out by removing concrete blocks from an upper wall area and lowering themselves to the ground using sheets and other items.
The two remaining escaped inmates are Keith Eli, 24, facing a second-degree attempted murder charge, and Johnathan Jevon Joseph, 24, facing several charges, including principal to first-degree rape. The third escapee, Joseph Allen Harrington, 26, killed himself after being found. Harrington was spotted pushing a black e-bike, and when police located him, he shot himself with a hunting rifle. The sheriff's office is investigating the escape internally and has warned residents to secure their homes and vehicles as the escapees are considered desperate and dangerous.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz of St. Landry Parish Jail in Opelousas, Louisiana, confirmed the escape of three inmates accused of violent crimes, including second-degree attempted murder. The inmates managed to break out by removing parts of a deteriorating wall and using sheets to scale another wall. One of the escapees killed himself after being tracked down. The remaining two escapees are still on the run, and residents are advised to be cautious and report any sightings to the authorities.
