Pentagon's Review of Controversial Caribbean Operation: Defense Secretary Addresses Forum at Reagan Library
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently addressed a defense forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, where he discussed the Pentagon's review process regarding the potential release of video footage from a September operation targeting survivors of a missile strike on an alleged drug-smuggling boat in the Caribbean. The operation resulted in the deaths of eleven individuals, sparking controversy over the use of a second missile that killed two survivors. Hegseth denied ordering the second strike, attributing the decision to Navy Adm. Frank "Mitch" Bradley, who led the mission. Lawmakers were briefed on the incident, with conflicting reports emerging about the nature of the orders given before the initial strike. Despite the controversy, Hegseth expressed his support for the strike and emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. The Pentagon is currently reviewing the possibility of releasing the video footage from the operation.
