Tragic 12-Car Crash at Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard: Metro Police Release Videos of Officers Responding

Metro police have released videos of officers responding to a tragic 12-car crash that resulted in the deaths of three individuals. The incident occurred at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard, where Jose Gutierrez, 19, allegedly intentionally accelerated towards a line of stopped cars. The crash claimed the lives of Gutierrez's girlfriend, Adilene Duran Rincon, 20, as well as Edward Garcia, 38, and Vanessa Vasquez, 25. Prosecutors believe Gutierrez deliberately crashed into the cars in an attempt to harm Duran Rincon. The videos show the immediate aftermath of the collision, with first responders and bystanders assisting the victims.

According to documents obtained by 8 News Now Investigators, Gutierrez was speeding at 71 mph towards the red light at the time of impact. Data from the car indicated that he rapidly accelerated from 9 mph within five seconds. Prosecutors revealed new evidence during a court hearing, suggesting that Gutierrez was actually speeding at 109 mph. The crash involved 12 cars and 18 individuals, with ages ranging from 5 to 75. The intersection remained closed for 12 hours due to the extensive scene.

Gutierrez is currently facing two counts of open murder for the deaths of Duran Rincon and Garcia. It is uncertain whether a third count will be added for Vasquez, who succumbed to her injuries later. Despite several bail denials, Gutierrez remains in custody and is set to appear for a preliminary hearing next week. This is an ongoing investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
