Experience Luxury and History at the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh

In 2024, Taylor Swift's highly anticipated Eras concerts took place in Edinburgh, where she reportedly also attended various Edinburgh Fringe Festival shows. Following her footsteps, I stayed at the Caledonian hotel, a former Victorian railway station transformed into a luxurious Curio Collection by Hilton property. Situated on Princes Street's West End with stunning views of Edinburgh Castle, the hotel offers a sense of seclusion and privacy despite its central location, making it a popular choice for celebrities and even royalty.
The Caledonian hotel has hosted a plethora of notable guests, including Queen Elizabeth II, Barack Obama, Elizabeth Taylor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charlie Chaplin, Judy Garland, and Sean Connery. Despite its prestigious guest list, the hotel remains surprisingly affordable for those who book in advance, with rates as low as £80 per person per night. The lobby features a grand chandelier and retains its vintage charm with the original railway station clock, set five minutes fast to prompt punctuality.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a welcoming tray of fruit, chocolate cake, and delectable fudge slices in their plush and well-appointed rooms. The hotel's dining options are equally impressive, with The Court restaurant offering a range of culinary delights, from an extravagant six-course tasting menu to light bites. Live jazz performances with a pianist add to the dining experience, making it a perfect prelude to the Fringe Festival shows.
The menu at The Court features a variety of dishes, including Aberdeen Angus beef, locally caught sea-bass, and halibut, ensuring a flavorful dining experience. While I opted for a lighter meal due to my busy Fringe Festival schedule, the Sunday roasts are said to be legendary. With its ideal location, impeccable hospitality, and exceptional dining options, it's no wonder that the Caledonian hotel captured Taylor Swift's heart. I would certainly consider returning to this charming and historic property for future visits to Edinburgh.
