Austin police have concluded that the death of 19-year-old Texas A&M student Brianna Aguilera in West Campus was a result of suicide. The investigation found no evidence of foul play, and Detective Robert Marshall stated that Aguilera's injuries were consistent with a fall from a higher floor. She was discovered unresponsive outside the 21 Rio apartments and pronounced dead at around 12:56 a.m.
Police Chief Lisa Davis addressed the public due to misinformation circulating online, emphasizing that the department usually does not comment on suicides. Surveillance footage revealed Aguilera's activities leading up to her death, showing her arriving at the apartment building on the evening of Nov. 28 and being with friends in an apartment on the 17th floor.
Aguilera had attended a tailgate earlier that day and was reported to have become highly intoxicated. Witnesses mentioned that she lost her cell phone and was seen arguing on the phone shortly before her death. Her mother contacted the police after finding her missing phone, leading to the discovery of her belongings in a wooded area near Walnut Creek.
Despite the family's belief that there is more to uncover about Aguilera's death, evidence collected by APD, including a deleted digital suicide note and discussions of suicidal thoughts, points to a non-criminal cause. A GoFundMe campaign has raised significant funds in her memory, highlighting the tragic and suspicious nature of the incident.
The family, represented by attorney Tony Buzbee, is seeking answers and plans to address the public in a news conference in Houston. The circumstances surrounding Brianna Aguilera's death continue to raise questions and concerns, prompting further investigation and support for her loved ones.
