Arrest of Luqmaan Khan: Potential Attack on University of Delaware Police Department Thwarted
A man from Wilmington, Delaware, was arrested after being found with a firearm, ammunition, an armored ballistic plate, and a notebook outlining a potential attack on law enforcement officers at the University of Delaware during a traffic stop. The 25-year-old man, Luqmaan Khan, was charged with possessing a machine gun and related offenses following the incident. Police initiated a traffic stop when Khan was operating a vehicle after hours in Canby Park West. Despite resisting arrest, Khan was eventually taken into custody. During the investigation, officers found a loaded handgun, ammunition, magazines, and an armored ballistic plate in the vehicle. Additionally, a notebook with details of weapons, ammunition, and attack plans was discovered, including references to a University of Delaware Police Department member and a building layout labeled as the "UD Police Station."
Following the traffic stop, a search warrant was executed at Khan's home in Wilmington, where more weapons, ammunition, and tactical gear were recovered. The recovered items included a Glock 9mm handgun with an illegal machine gun conversion device, a .556 rifle with accessories, ammunition, and a ballistic vest. Law enforcement officials shared an image of the recovered weapons and ammunition on social media. The University of Delaware temporarily separated Khan from the school and banned him from all campuses while legal proceedings are ongoing. The university assured the community that there are no immediate threats but acknowledged the concerning nature of the evidence indicating a plan targeting the University of Delaware Police Department.
Khan has been charged with resisting arrest, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, weapon violations, and related offenses. He was arraigned and held on $107,200 cash bail before being turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for potential additional charges. The university's interim president, Laura Carlson, emphasized the collaboration with law enforcement and the sharing of information to address the situation. The incident has raised concerns among the university community, but authorities have reassured that there are no known threats at this time. The case remains under investigation to ensure the safety and security of the University of Delaware and its members.
