Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Restores 707 BTS Towers After Sumatra Floods

The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has successfully restored 707 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers for signal transmission following the recent floods in Sumatra. The recovery efforts were completed within the last 24 hours. Komdigi has been working closely with mobile operators to ensure the restoration of the disrupted BTS towers in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh Province.

Out of the total 2,463 towers that were affected since November 28th, 707 signal transmission towers are now operating normally. Currently, 1,756 towers are still undergoing recovery. The disrupted BTS towers are mainly located in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces. The backbone line in North Sumatra has been successfully restored after being cut off due to landslides, and the Banda Aceh - Bireun and Samalanga sections are operational again.

The heavy rain and cyclone Senyar that hit Sumatra since November 20th led to floods and landslides, causing damage to residential areas and public facilities. The government has not declared the situation a national disaster yet, but various agencies are actively involved in assisting with evacuations and logistics distribution for the affected areas.

The recent natural disasters in Sumatra have prompted a swift response from the government and various organizations to provide relief efforts and support to the affected regions. The restoration of the BTS towers and communication infrastructure is crucial in ensuring connectivity and assistance to those in need during such challenging times.
