Hungary's Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, stated in an interview that Hungary's exemption from US sanctions on Russian oil and gas will continue as long as President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban are in power. The US imposed sanctions on Russian oil and gas companies, including Rosneft and Lukoil, to pressure Moscow over the conflict in Ukraine. Hungary, heavily reliant on Russian energy supplies, sought and received an exemption from these sanctions following discussions between Orban and Trump. While reports suggest the exemption is temporary, Hungary asserts it is permanent, ensuring continued energy supplies through pipelines like Druzhba and TurkStream.
