Tragic Stabbing Incident: Three Migrant Teenagers Charged in Fatal Attack on Homeless Man in Chicago

Three migrant teenagers have been charged in the fatal stabbing of a 49-year-old homeless man in Chicago. Wuinayker Rodriguez-Vasquez, 16, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder, while two 14-year-olds were also charged, one with first-degree murder and the other with armed robbery. The victim did not know any of the suspects.
All three suspects are reportedly from Venezuela. Rodriguez-Vasquez is believed to have crossed into the U.S. in September 2023 near Eagle Pass, Texas, and had a prior encounter with Texas law enforcement. He has no criminal history in Illinois.
The stabbing attack occurred in the Chicago Loop early on a Sunday morning. The victim was sleeping near his belongings when the suspects approached him. Rodriguez-Vasquez allegedly kicked the victim, one of the 14-year-olds struck him, and Rodriguez-Vasquez stabbed him in the back, leading to his death. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, with the cause of death determined to be a stab wound to the back. Police apprehended the teenagers after identifying them in surveillance footage. Rodriguez-Vasquez was found with a knife and was recognized by his mother and another member of the group.
Prosecutors described the attack as heinous and cruel, with some suspects laughing afterward. This tragic incident highlights the vulnerability of homeless individuals and the need for justice in such cases.
