Me’gong Festival 2025: Celebrating Culture, Music, and Sustainability in the Garo Hills

The Me’gong Festival is set to return to Tura, Meghalaya on December 5 and 6, bringing a cultural extravaganza to the region. The festival will feature international stars like Richard Marx and Yellow Claw, as well as Bollywood singers Kanika Kapoor and Neeti Mohan. This event is part of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s vision to boost Meghalaya’s cultural economy through festivals that promote tourism, livelihoods, and community-led growth.

Me’gong has grown to become one of Meghalaya’s premier cultural events, drawing over 3 lakh visitors in just two days during the 2024 edition. The festival not only entertains the crowds but also supports local businesses, including hospitality, transport, artisans, food vendors, and youth entrepreneurs. This boosts economic opportunities and establishes the Garo Hills as a cultural and tourism hub in the region.

In addition to the international and Bollywood stars, local bands like Rough Road, Hoi Hoi Makbil, Haystack Ladies, G-Hills Finest, Crack Gang, and Ahaia will also take the stage, providing a diverse musical experience for attendees. The festival also offers visitors a taste of authentic Garo cuisine, craft exhibitions, weaving workshops, bamboo artistry, and beaded jewelry that showcase the region’s rich craftsmanship.

Me’gong Festival follows sustainable practices, such as zero-plastic operations and community-led waste management, to ensure minimal environmental impact. This event plays a crucial role in Meghalaya’s tourism strategy, expanding infrastructure, supporting community tourism, and ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach all regions, including the once underexplored Garo Hills.

With a mix of global performers, local talent, indigenous experiences, and eco-friendly initiatives, Me’gong Festival 2025 aims to put the Garo Hills back on the global cultural map. Stay tuned for updates on tickets, schedules, and highlights on the Meghalaya Tourism website and official social media channels. This December, visitors from near and far are invited to witness the cultural vibrancy of the Garo Hills at the Me’gong Festival.
