Serena the Turkey's Thanksgiving Wish: Adopt a Turkey and Spread Compassion this Holiday Season

Serena, a rescue turkey at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY, is a huge fan of Taylor Swift. The bird finds solace in Swift's music, particularly the song "Wi$h Li$t" from the album The Life of a Showgirl. Farm Sanctuary shared a video of Serena enjoying the music and expressing her Thanksgiving wishes, which include sanctuary for all animals, no turkeys on the dinner table, love, kindness, and forever homes for her and her fellow sanctuary friends.

Farm Sanctuary's Adopt a Turkey Project allows animal lovers to symbolically adopt a rescued turkey by making a one-time donation of $35. This initiative supports the care and protection of the turkeys at the sanctuary and raises awareness about meat-free holiday meals and animal rescue. For those who want to go the extra mile, there is an option to "adopt a flock" for $135.

While the adoption is symbolic, donors can take a personality quiz to find out which of the sanctuary's "spokesturkeys" they are most similar to. Alongside Serena, other spokesturkeys include adventurous Zuzu, thoughtful Thelma, and charismatic Tutu. Farm Sanctuary hopes that by participating in the Adopt a Turkey Project, people will consider starting a new tradition of saving turkeys instead of consuming them for Thanksgiving dinner.

With over 46 million turkeys slaughtered annually for Thanksgiving meals, Farm Sanctuary's initiative aims to encourage a shift towards compassion and kindness towards animals during the holiday season. By supporting the Adopt a Turkey Project, individuals can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these rescued birds and promote a more humane approach to celebrating Thanksgiving.
