Controversy Surrounding Morgan Geyser's Extradition and Escape: A Closer Look

A Wisconsin woman, Morgan Geyser, who was previously released from a mental institution after a violent incident involving her classmate, has agreed not to contest her extradition from Illinois back to Wisconsin. Geyser had fled her group home in Madison with a companion, leading to her arrest in Illinois. Her friend, who has not been named, faces charges of trespassing and obstruction but has not been accused of aiding Geyser's escape. Geyser and her companion were found sleeping outside a truck stop in Illinois and were apprehended by the police.
Geyser and her friend had taken a bus to Illinois, where they were discovered by law enforcement officers. Geyser, who was apprehended with her companion, initially provided a fake name to the officers. She expressed fear that her group home would prevent her from seeing her friend, prompting her to flee. Geyser's friend, who identified as transgender, stated that they had a close relationship and decided to accompany Geyser on her escape.
The incident involving Geyser and her friend occurred after Geyser's conditional release from the mental institution where she had been confined for eight years. Geyser, along with her accomplice Anissa Weier, had attacked their classmate in 2014 in an attempt to impress the fictional character Slender Man. Geyser was released on conditional release in September 2021 after multiple requests. Weier had previously been granted conditional release in 2021. The two girls had carried out the attack on their classmate in a Waukesha park, with Geyser stabbing the victim multiple times while Weier encouraged her.
Geyser's escape and subsequent arrest in Illinois have raised concerns about her conditional release and the potential consequences she may face. Wisconsin authorities now have 30 days to transfer Geyser back to the state, where she could potentially face new charges or have her conditional release revoked. The incident has reignited discussions about the case and the circumstances surrounding Geyser's release from the mental institution.
