Thanksgiving Week Weather Forecast: NWS Insights and Travel Tips

The National Weather Service (NWS) has provided insights into the weather conditions that Americans can anticipate during Thanksgiving week. With approximately 82 million individuals expected to travel within a 50-mile radius between November 25 and December 1, the NWS has released a map to aid in pre-planning. According to the NWS, the central and northern regions of the United States are likely to experience temperatures below the normal range. This deviation is expected to affect areas such as the northern Pacific Northwest, the Great Plains, parts of Texas, and the interior Mid-Atlantic. The onset of below-normal temperatures could commence as early as November 25, with a higher level of certainty from November 26 to 30.

Conversely, the West Coast and Florida are projected to have warmer temperatures compared to the usual conditions during Thanksgiving week. The NWS attributes this deviation to various weather phenomena such as La Nina, the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), and the potential occurrence of a rare November Sudden Stratospheric Warming event, commonly known as the "polar vortex." These factors are anticipated to contribute to winter-like conditions across a significant portion of the United States from late November to early December.

To assist individuals in planning their Thanksgiving travel, the National Weather Service has shared a link for Americans to access weather forecasts for their respective destinations. While weather conditions are beyond our control, they can significantly impact travel plans, especially for those driving. It is advisable to plan ahead and prioritize safety while traveling during this period.
