Melbourne Synagogue Arson: Mental Illness or Antisemitism?

A man in Melbourne, Australia, set fire to a synagogue while worshippers were inside, but a magistrate stated that the act was driven by mental illness rather than antisemitism. Angelo Loras, 35, admitted to arson and endangering lives on July 4 when he used a flammable substance to set fire to the front door of the East Melbourne Synagogue. Approximately 20 people were present for a Shabbat meal at the time, but fortunately, no one was harmed.
