Deported Mother of Four Leaves Family Devastated: The Story of Melissa Tran

A mother from Maryland has been deported to Vietnam after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Melissa Tran, a mother of four who owns a nail salon in Hagerstown, Maryland, was initially taken into ICE custody in May and released in October. Despite being reunited with her family, she faced deportation. Tran came to the U.S. legally in the 1990s as a refugee with a Green Card but had a criminal record that led to her removal order in 2003. Vietnam initially refused to accept her back due to her arrival date, allowing her to stay in the U.S. with regular immigration check-ins. However, during a check-in in May, she was detained and eventually deported to Vietnam.

Tran's husband, Danny Hoang, is now running their business and taking care of their children. The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that Tran had a criminal record that included forgery, larceny, fraud, and writing fraudulent checks. Despite Tran's admission of wrongdoing and plea for a second chance, she was deported to Vietnam, leaving her family devastated. Tran's attorney confirmed her arrival in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Wednesday afternoon, leaving her family in the U.S. feeling the unfairness of the situation. Melissa Tran's deportation has left her family in Maryland without her care and support, highlighting the impact of immigration policies on families and individuals.
