Former Capitol Rioter Arrested for Sex Crimes Against Minors: The Andrew Johnson Case

A man who was pardoned for his involvement in the January 6 riot has been arrested and charged with sex crimes, including molestation of a child under 12 years old. Andrew Johnson is also facing charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between 12 and 16 years old, lewd and lascivious exhibition, and harmful material transmitted to a minor. The arrest affidavit states that Johnson allegedly sent inappropriate messages and photos to the son of his ex-girlfriend, leading to the discovery of the alleged abuse. The minor reported that Johnson had molested him multiple times between April and October 2024, prompting an investigation and subsequent charges.
Johnson allegedly tried to cover up his actions by sending the minor an iPhone and instructing him to delete any evidence of their communication. He also allegedly showed explicit photos and videos to the child and another individual, as well as exposed himself to them in his van. Additionally, Johnson reportedly told the minor that he had been pardoned for his involvement in the Capitol riot and would receive a large sum of money, possibly as a way to manipulate the child into staying silent about the abuse.
Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, Johnson is facing two separate criminal cases, one for each child involved. His trials are scheduled for early next year, following his arrest in August 2025 in Tennessee and subsequent extradition to Florida. Johnson had previously pleaded guilty to charges related to the Capitol riot in 2024 and was among the rioters pardoned by former President Donald Trump in 2025.
The disturbing allegations against Johnson highlight the importance of protecting children from predators and holding individuals accountable for their actions. The legal proceedings in this case will hopefully provide justice for the victims and ensure that those responsible for such heinous crimes are held responsible.
