An Evening with The Residency in 3D: Celebrating a Decade of Hip-Hop Excellence

The Residency has been a driving force for young hip-hop artists for a decade, guiding them through the music industry and helping them emerge as leaders. To mark this milestone, The Residency is hosting a vibrant anniversary celebration at Seattle's Showbox at the Market on Thursday, Nov. 20. The event, titled "An Evening with The Residency in 3D," will honor the dedication, growth, and talent of the program's mentors, artists, and community. The sold-out show will feature performances by alumni and special guests, including Macklemore, a co-founder of The Residency and a staunch supporter.
According to Executive Director Olisa Enrico, The Residency was established by the community, for the community, and continues to uphold this ethos a decade later. The program, founded in 2015 through a partnership between MoPOP, Arts Corp, Ryan Lewis, Ben Haggerty (Macklemore), and Ben Secord, aims to assist emerging hip-hop artists in achieving success both on and off the stage. The Residency's core mission is to empower young individuals from historically marginalized communities to forge sustainable careers in hip-hop by providing professional guidance, industry education, and equitable access to resources and connections essential for transforming passion into profession while honoring the genre's heritage.
The upcoming show on Nov. 20 will pay tribute to The Residency's past, present, and future, featuring performances by local talents such as Travis Thompson, All City Choir, The Residency House Band, and more. Enrico emphasizes the significance of hip-hop in shaping their lives and expresses their commitment to nurturing the next generation of creators who will influence the future of the genre.
