Border Dispute Escalation: Cambodia-Thailand Tensions Rise Amid Peace Deal Pause

Cambodia and Thailand are in a dispute over fresh clashes along their border, with Bangkok announcing a pause in the implementation of a US-backed peace deal. The recent hostilities between the two countries resulted in casualties and displacement before a peace agreement mediated by US President Donald Trump helped ease tensions. However, Thailand has halted the peace deal's implementation, citing an incident where four soldiers were injured by a landmine explosion.
According to Cambodian information minister Neth Pheaktra, Thai soldiers allegedly fired on civilians in Prey Chan village of Banteay Meanchey Province, injuring at least five people. On the other hand, Richa Suksuwanon, deputy spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army, stated that Thai soldiers heard gunfire from the Cambodian side but did not retaliate, suggesting it was a provocation by the Cambodian forces.
The situation between Cambodia and Thailand remains tense as both sides exchange accusations of border clashes. The recent pause in the implementation of the peace deal has raised concerns about a potential escalation of hostilities. It is essential for both countries to engage in dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to avoid further violence and instability in the region.
